Wedding of Maize’s wins ‘NEFTA Film Award’

Kathmandu: Nepalese nonfiction (documentary) film Makaiko Bihe (Wedding of Maize) has won the Best Editor Award for the NEFTA Film Award-2016. Editor Lawa Pyakurel won the award in the nonfiction (documentary) category.

The program was held on December 23 at Ice Rink in UAE Dubai.

Among the five nominees, the award was given to Editor Pyakurel, who concluded he present excelled in his editing skills and abilities. This non-fiction (documentary) tells the tradition of marrying maize based on the Bon religion that has been going on since the 16th century. This tradition is based on the belief that the crop flourishes after worshiping the earth, soil, air and water.Pyakurel has presented the subject in an artistic way.

Thirty-nine films competed in the NEFTA Film Awards. According to the organizers, the program includes fiction and non-fiction films made in the approved language of Nepal.

Best Actor Dayahang Rai and Best Actress Namrata Shrestha were declared in the award competition. Ujjwal Ghimire won Best Director, Ram Babu Gurung won Best Story Writing, Khagendra Lamichhane won Best Dialogue and Subarna Thapa won Best Screenplay. Similarly, Himal KC was declared the Best Fight Director, Purushottam Pradhan the Best Cinematographer and Lawa Pyakurel the Best Editor (non-fiction film).Nepali feature film ‘Pashupati Prasad’ won the award for Best Feature Film. The winners of 31 genres were awarded trophies and certificates at the event.

President of the Nepal Film Technical Association Prem Bamjan (Pushkar) said that the award ceremony was a historic moment for the Nepali film industry. The program was attended by Nepali artists, technicians, journalists, Nepalese community of both countries and eminent personalities.
