Best Editor Award to Pyakurel

Kathmandu- Lawa Pyakurel has won the Best Editor award at the 2nd NIFF. Pyakurel was declared the winner by a unanimous decision of the five judging panels of the awards program.

Chief Guest Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ishwar Pokharel presented prizes and certificates to the winners.

The second edition of Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF-2019), which started with the original slogan ‘Celebration of Narratives’, was held at the City Hall and Tourism Board in Kathmandu from February 21 to 25. During the five-day festival, 60 films from 31 different countries competed. Among them were 16 Nepali films.

Five were nominated in the category of Best Short Documentary Editor. Among the contestants were Sandeep Adhikari (Dying Candle -Nepal), Arghyakamal Mitra (Andarkahini: Self Exile -India), Rashaduzzman Shohag (Komola Rocket -Bangladesh), Lawa Pyakurel (Super Mank -Nepal) and Suvigya Sundar Shrestha (Mother-Nepal).

Pyakurel won the award for the short film ‘Super Monk’. The short documentary film ‘Super Monk’ is based on a fictional story. The film is directed by Syang Gyalmo Tamang.

A Jury panel chief Nir Shah said that Pyakurel was awarded for his outstanding innovative ability as well as his interactive method of editing and modern and specialized technical knowledge. He said, “Pyakurel has been awarded for his realistic editing art, presentation style and special ability to bring dynamism to every scenario.”

Among the films included in the festival, awards were given after evaluation by the jury. One of the best feature films in the international genre was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of one thousand dollars, the Gautam Buddha Award and a short film were awarded a trophy and a Mount Everest Award with a cash prize of five hundred dollars.

The judges were Nir Shah (Nepal), Professor Ling Qiao (China), Premendra Mazumdar (India), Ms. Anne Delseth (France) and Navin Subba (Nepal).
